What is the Fuel Cost Calculator?
A fuel cost calculator estimates trip fuel expense from distance, vehicle mileage and fuel price. It is useful for road trips, commute planning, delivery estimates and comparing travel options.
The calculator first estimates how much fuel the trip will consume. Then it multiplies the required fuel by the fuel price per unit. The result gives an approximate fuel cost for the journey.
Actual fuel cost can vary because of traffic, driving style, road condition, vehicle load, air conditioning, tyre pressure and route changes.
How we calculate the result
Formula: Fuel Cost = Distance / Mileage x Fuel Price
If distance is entered in kilometers and mileage is kilometers per liter, distance divided by mileage gives liters of fuel needed. Multiplying liters by fuel price gives estimated trip cost.
For example, a 300 km trip at 15 km per liter needs about 20 liters. If fuel costs 100 per liter, estimated fuel cost is 2000.
When to use this calculator
Use this calculator for travel budgets, daily commute cost, delivery planning and comparing routes or vehicles.
Input tips for better results
Enter trip distance, vehicle mileage and fuel price using the same distance unit. If mileage is in km/l, distance should be in kilometers.
Compare one-way and round-trip costs, and test a lower mileage scenario for traffic or hills.
Limitations of this calculator
Actual fuel cost can change with driving style, traffic, tyre pressure, AC use, load and fuel price changes.
Real-world example
A 200 km trip at 15 km/l needs about 13.33 liters. At Rs. 100 per liter, fuel cost is about Rs. 1,333.
Mistakes to avoid
Do not use highway mileage for city traffic if most of the trip is slow or congested.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why is actual fuel cost different?
Traffic, driving style and road conditions can change real mileage.
Can I use it for petrol and diesel?
Yes. Enter the correct fuel price and mileage for your vehicle.
Does it include tolls or parking?
No. It estimates fuel cost only.
